Description

Creamy finely crackled light grey glaze, with underglaze iron black floral spray in interior center (on which are five pontil spur scars) and a narrow band of calligraphic decoration on interior next to rim and a wider band of similar decoration on exterior, both enclosed within pairs of concentric lines, chocolate brown bottom.

Curatorial Remarks

1. (Louise Cort, 27 February 2005) Medium changed from Glazed pottery clay to Stoneware with iron decoration under transparent glaze; iron was on base. Date changed from Tran or Later Le, 14th–15th century to Tran, 14th century.

2. (R. Anderson per J. Smith, Oct. 22, 2010) transfer of remark from Provenance Field: "Collected by John Forbes during his foreign service posting in Manilla. Export was approved, retroactively, by the National Museum of the Philippines in Manilla. See object file for documentation."
