  • 24.5 x 29 cm
  • 17th-19th century, Qing dynasty
  • Origin: Probably Guangdong province, China
  • Provenance: Thailand
  • Gift of Osborne and Gratia Hauge, and Victor and Takako Hauge
  • S2005.59

Curatorial Remarks

1. (Louise Cort, 19 May 2005) Possibly Chinese? If so, from Guangdong. Thin brown glaze. Very light in weight.

2. (Louise Cort, 27 January 2006) Related by glaze and ware to S2005.60.

3. (Louise Cort, 12 July 2006) According to Dr. Luu Hung and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Mai, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Hanoi, they have not seen jars with this angular rim in Vietnam. They would expect the rim to be rounded on a Vietnamese jar. The base is concave. The iron wash is dotted with specks of wood ash. Compare S2005.470, a much heavier version of a similar shape.
